Update from International Justice Mission (IJM)
Andy Bevan, Scotland Director for International Justice Mission (IJM), provides an update on how IJM is managing in light of the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, IJM’s Lucille Dejito shares on the work the Souter Charitable Trust is making possible in the Philippines. IJM’s work in the Philippines comes alongside the issue of Online Sexual Exploitation of Children. During lockdown, IJM has witnessed an increase in this form violence but this has been matched by IJM’s creativity and an unprecedented number of operations and children rescued. The work of justice goes on despite the challenges our world is facing and IJM is extremely grateful to stand alongside the Souter Charitable Trust in this fight.
New Commitment agreed with Mary's Meals
The Souter Charitable Trust have entered into a new 3 year commitment with Mary's Meals.
The work of Mary’s Meals is beautifully simple; the charity provides one good meal every day for hungry children at school in 19 of the world’s poorest countries. The promise of these life-changing meals attracts children to the classroom where, instead of working or begging for food, they can gain an education that will one day be their ladder out of poverty. Where Mary’s Meals are provided there is a rise in rates of enrolment, attendance and academic performance, and children are happier too. It costs just £15.90 to feed a child with Mary’s Meals every school day for an entire year.
New Commitment agreed with ACET UK
The Souter Charitable Trust have entered into a new 3 year commitment with Aids Care Education And Training (ACET UK)
ACET UK equips and inspires individuals, schools, churches, and organisations, in the UK and internationally, to transform culture by promoting healthy self-esteem, positive relationships, and good sexual health. We do this by:
Educating young people through our Esteem programme
Sharing our expertise through delivering Esteem training and providing resources to those who work with young people, including youth workers, teachers and health practitioners
Providing support to parents on how to talk to their children about relationships and sex
Training and mobilising churches to facilitate conversations around relationships and sex
Working with and training international partners who share our vision and mission and who are committed to mobilising the church to promote healthy relationships, improve sexual health and respond to the HIV pandemic
ACET teams flourish across sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia inspired by the call to care for those in need, and to educate and train others. The work the Souter Charitable Trust is supporting includes ACET Ukraine’s energetic and vibrant work in schools and youth clubs - helping to prevent suicides in young people across Ukraine, and empowering them to live their lives to the full.
